Hey everyone! If you don’t know me, I'm Myra. I'm 9 years old and in 4th standard.
Some of my friends love art and crafts, some love reading, some love to dance.
But I love to jump..A LOT.
I love to move, and to keep outdoors. Sitting for too long is kinda boring!
I was born in the year of the monkey and everyone at home tells me I am one.
Naturally, I love sports. I started learning very early- like one year old early.
My mom said I was a water baby, so she took me swimming when I was 1. I made my first friend there and although we don't live in the same city, we still meet and have so much fun!
Now I’m playing a sport every day. Some for co-curricular activities at school, some in the school team, and some outside of school. They’re all different kinds- Tennis, Soccer, Swimming, Basketball, Capoeira, Sprinting.
Here’s 10 different reasons why I personally enjoy sports-
Reason 1- I don’t like boring exercise
The first reason is staying fit. Have you ever seen the inside of a gym?
To me… it looks a bit boring. People are just doing the same thing again and again, that too alone. Sport is exactly like working out, but way more fun and freestyle way. You get to run, chase, kick, jump, AND play with your friends.
You don’t even realise you’re exercising because you’re having such a good time.
And to any kids reading this who think the gym is cooler… try a sport and you will know exactly what I'm saying. Sports is fun way to move, and I love to try different kinds. Of course, I already have my favorite kinds.
Reason 2- Sports are cool (and it’s slay to be cool)
Have you heard some sports have the reputation of cool at school? If you’re around my age, you would know it well. And honestly… they are kind of cool.
Sometimes I join sports teams just because they look fun and cool. I know grown-ups say you should only do what makes you happy and I do! Feeling cool also makes me happy.
Every single one of my friends somehow stays cool and I choose to stay cool by being sporty.
Reason 3- Bye bye boredom
Have you ever felt a bit too bored at home? Mum and dad are at work, and your sibling is too little or grown-up to play with. You don’t know what to do, and everything feels a bit boring?
I think every sibling feels like that sometimes.
Sports may help fix that easily. You can’t really play most sports alone at home (also… you might break something), so you go outside and find yourself someone to play with. When there's nobody, I convince my parents for a round of badminton post dinner every now and then.
But when you go outside, you meet kids your age. It’s stepping out into a world full of people wanting to socialise to. You play together, you laugh, hi-five, chit-chat, and it is so enjoyable.
Reason 4- Switching off my brain to disconnect
In school we are starting to learn harder concepts, and it will get harder as we grow up. Things like decimals, calligrams AKA shape poems as my teachers calls it. Sometimes my brain feels a bit too full and I feel like disconnecting. That’s when a sport really helps.
Playing a sport is a completely different thing from studying. When you study you sit and focus. When you play a sport, you can go a little crazy, run, and shout, along with the focus.
Reason 5- Keeping screens away
Have you ever felt you are always on your devices? Between you and me, I am, because we study on our iPad at school and then I love my screen time to relax. Playing sports is helping me keep my screen time limited and me and my parents love that about it.
Reason 6- So tired I don’t even worry
Do you ever feel scared in the dark? I dream a lot. No. I nightmare a lot! Especially after all the movies I watch- Harry Potter, etc. Night darkness obviously increases my fears, and my imagination is at its peak in the nights when I am alone in my room.
Luckily for me, I play sports. I feel extra drained after a long day, so I lie down in bed and sleep in a minute. It makes me feel less afraid of the dark. Believe me, this is a very real fear in my world.
Reason 7- I like being strong
Have you ever wished you were really strong? Sport helps build body strength.
When my baby sister was born, I could pick her up easily. Even as she grows bigger, I can still carry her without much effort. I think sports helped make my arms stronger.
It also shows up in any new kind of sport I try.
Reason 8- Winning is AMAZING
Being competitive is actually not that easy for kids. Like, imagine joining an art competition… but you don’t even like art that much. You probably won’t care if you win or lose, right? That’s because you only feel competitive in things you really enjoy.
For me, that thing is sports. When I play, I actually want my team or me to win. I push myself harder, try to run faster, and I don’t feel like giving up. For me, it’s sports. For you… it could be too.
Reason 9- It never gets boring
There are so many sports to try- swimming, football, basketball, tennis… each one feels new and different. Even if I don’t feel like doing one sport, I can always do another one. So I never really run out of things to do, and that keeps me interested.
Reason 10- Happiness
Being sporty, trying so many new things make my day better. It keeps me happy and going!
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy
After trying so many sports, I do have my likes and dislikes. You don’t really know what you like until you try it.
At school, it took a long time to try different co-curricular activities. Most of these happen after or before regular school day. Some days are too early, and some too hot. That’s why I think IBU Sports Day is AMAZING!
Expect different booths where you can try different sports right there. No pressure to sign-up. Just go, play, and see what you find interesting. Beyond this, there's a bunch of cool booths to shop from minus the boredom of tagging along with mom dad for shopping, and OF COURSE there's food.

Save The Date:
Event: IBU Sports day, 2026
Date: 11 April 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Sunway International School, Sunway City
I think that’s a really easy way to find YOUR sport.
Maybe you’ll find something you love… just like I did, without the early mornings or heat.
