The Nurts’ Heart-to-Heart: Parenting for the Future Conference

Let’s be honest: when was the last time someone asked how you were doing—not as a driver, a snack-prepper, or a homework-helper, but as a person AND a parent?

That is exactly why our friends at The Nurts are hosting Malaysia’s first-of-its-kind parenting conference, Heart-to-Heart: Parenting for the Future.

Taking place on Saturday, 11 April 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, this half-day event isn’t your typical lecture-heavy seminar. It is a series of genuine, unfiltered conversations between parents, psychologists, and community leaders about the raw reality of raising kids today.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

Parenting advice is everywhere - from the depths of the internet to well-meaning friends, family and strangers. But where do we go when we need something deeper, honest, and judgement-free? We need a space that makes us say, "Yes, that’s me too!"

This is why parenthood isn't a journey meant to be walked alone. This event will feature a wonderful mix of experts and relatable voices, including:

  • Alicia Chin (Chairman of IBU Family)

  • Dr. Yi-Ki (Paediatrician)

  • Anne Tham (Founder & Group CEO of ACE EdVenture Group)

  • Liyana Taff (CEO of makchic)

  • Dr. Jeyanthi (Paediatric ENT Surgeon)

  • Audrey & Tim (Co-founders of Colony Co-Working Space & Events)

  • Charis & Daryll (Co-founders of OpenMinds Group)

  • Lily Shah (COO of Parenthood Media)

  • …and more leaders across education, psychology, and media.

Our own voice from IBU, chairman Alicia Chin, will be speaking on Panel 5: Raising Children Without Losing Yourself.

Alicia brings a unique perspective to the stage: she is a finance professional and leadership coach, but also a devoted mum to three spirited teenagers. Having navigated everything from the toddler years to the complexities of the teen milestones, Alicia sees parenting as a constant journey of growth and adaptability.

She believes that the lessons we learn at home—patience, clarity, and the courage to evolve—are what truly shape us as individuals. She’s ready to dive into the questions we all think about but rarely say out loud:

  • What is parenting, really, in 2026?

  • Where is the "village" when we need it most?

  • What is self-care when you have a million mental notes running through your head?

  • How do we find our way back when we feel lost in the role of "parent"?

TOPICS THAT HIT HOME

The conference features down-to-earth conversations on the issues that actually keep us up at night:

  • Panel 1: The Mental Load: Sharing the Invisible Work of Parenting

    • An honest conversation about burnout, invisible labour, and how parents can share the emotional and practical load more intentionally. Why does parenting feel exhausting even when we’re “doing everything right” — and how can we lighten the load together?

  • Panel 2: Raising Emotionally Resilient Kids in an Overwhelmed World

    • Practical ways to help children cope with anxiety, pressure, and big emotions — building resilience from an early age. How can we help our children manage stress and emotions before they turn into anxiety or shutdown?

  • Panel 3: Screens, Socials & Sanity: Helping Kids (and Ourselves) Stay Balanced

    • Navigating screen time, social media, and digital boundaries without guilt, fear, or constant conflict. How much screen time is too much — and how do we set healthy boundaries without power struggles?

  • Panel 4: The Overscheduled Child: Balancing Achievement & Wellbeing

    • Rethinking success, enrichment, and pressure — and how to give children space to grow with joy and curiosity. Are we doing too much in the name of “giving our kids the best” — and what happens when they never get to slow down?

  • Panel 5: Raising Children Without Losing Yourself

    • A heart-led storytelling session on identity, self-compassion, and why thriving parents raise thriving children. How do we care for ourselves without guilt — and why does self-love matter so much in parenting?
